Ready to start baking?
Here is a list of baking materials that will help you along your baking journey. By no means are these necessary, but I have provided links in case you want to add these to your kitchen.

Materials list
- Banneton

Bannetons are used to hold your shaped loaf while it’s proofing. I think shaping your bread into a round ball and then being held in a round basket is easier for beginners, but there are oval bannetons available as well. Buy on Amazon if you’re interested.

Use these dough scrapers to get the last bits of dough out of the bowls. Buy on Amazon

A lame holds the razor blade used to score the tops of your loaves to help them rise. Buy here.

A good bread knife is must. You will want one that is serrated and long. I recommend a knife that is 10 inches long. Bread Knife

I personally use this food scale. Buy on Amazon

Next is a good ol’ cast iron dutch oven. I think this is essential with baking bread. This little oven is going to provide consistent heat, and help create steam, which helps your bread rise during baking. This is the one I use, but one covered in enamel will work. This is 5 quart and that’s plenty big for larger loaves.

Because wild yeast is alive, temperature matters. This is not one I personally use, but I found it on amazon for you. Buy here.

This bench knife is helpful if you ever need to cut your dough in half or shape your dough. It is sharp and easy to clean! I have used this one for over 5 years and it has never rusted. Purchase here.

I calls these “little hats” and they cover my mixing bowls and bannetons!
